Le jeudi 15 février 2024, Madame Selma BEN MUSTAPHA, titulaire d'un Diplôme de Médecin et d’un Certificat de formation à la recherche en sciences médicales, présentera l'examen en vue de l'obtention du grade de Doctorat en sciences médicales, sous la direction de Monsieur Philippe COUCKE.

Cette épreuve consistera en la défense publique d'une thèse intitulée :

Résumé de la thèse

This work evaluates the Radiation Oncology (RO) training in Europe and offers recommendations for its improvement. 

Our preliminary research revealed that RO training to medical students in European medical schools varies considerably in terms of the topics addressed and the number of hours dedicated to RO. 

Then, we assessed the postgraduate RO training of radiation therapists and radiation oncologists in the greater region. It was found that RO specialists occasionally felt their training was inadequate, insufficiently practical, and lacked instruction in soft skills.

To provide an innovative postgraduate training, we developed a medical simulation course, using virtual reality and role-playing, based on an analysis of the safety-related events of the RO department of the University Hospital of Liège. 

This course's objective was to train participants on the most common or severe safety issues that can arise in a clinical RO environment.

We were able to provide hands-on, soft skills-based training to RO professionals from the greater region which demonstrated that medical simulation is an effective method for acquiring soft skills, such as communication and quality and safety management, and that this learning can be maintained over time.
