Education

The 7 courses of study offered by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Liège provide a comprehensive range of theoretical and practical multi-disciplinary teaching in the field of health (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle programs).

Although there are links between them, each stream operates in its own specific segment of healthcare:

• Biomedical sciences for the scientific aspects of disease: preparation, research into remedies.
• Pharmaceutical sciences for drug delivery and patient advice.
• Medical sciences for the clinical aspects of pathology: diagnosis and treatment.
• Dental sciences for diseases of the masticatory apparatus and its relationship with the rest of the body: diagnosis, treatment, prevention.
• Physiotherapy and rehabilitation for treatment using physical means (active and/or passive).
• Motor sciences for human physical activity: advice, training and motor rehabilitation.
• Public health sciences for an approach to societal problems.

Teaching can take a variety of forms (courses, practical work, internships, etc.) or follow different options (some of which are unique in French-speaking Belgium). Curricula are largely customizable, but priorities are always centered on practice (via internships), the student (via the problem-based learning teaching method) and the relationship with the patient.

Numerous support options are available to students, either before their studies via preparatory activities or information and presentation sessions, or during their studies via remedial measures, or after their studies via continuing education.

Thanks to the modern teaching methods used, the clinical activities developed within the University Hospital, the numerous experimental and/or clinical research programs, and the cutting-edge techniques developed in the laboratories, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Liège trains complementary, autonomous and efficient professionals who are open to the world and its changes.
