Biography
Dr. Kim Hendrickx is a permanent Research Associate of the Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) and visiting scholar to the Science & Justice Research Centre at the University of California, Santa Cruz (2017-18; 2021-22). Working across the social sciences, humanities and life sciences, he is interested in how we know and craft relations between bodies/organisms and environments through epigenetics, model organisms, food, botanicals and biomonitoring.
He has published in journals of different fields, such as Configurations, Frontiers in Genetics, Science as Culture, Health, Social Anthropology, Frontiers in Pharmacology and EMBO Reports. His book Health Without Bodies: Health Claims and Scientific Evidence on the European Market (Palgrave Macmillan) was published in November 2023 with an afterword by Isabelle Stengers. Kim is currently working on a new book manuscript for the University of California Press, under the provisional title ¿Keep Biology Weird¿.
Since October 2021, Kim is leading the FNRS-funded project TRACE: Towards a Relational Anthropology of Chemical Environments. In this project, he enquires into biomonitoring and the deployment of humans, animals and plants as pollution sentinels.
