A word from the Dean

Welcome to the ULiège Faculty of Medicine

The ULiège Faculty of Medicine, housed in the heart of the wooded domain of Sart Tilman, welcomes some 4,500 students each year to whom it offers undergraduate and graduate teaching programs as well as numerous research programs. The eight study programs organised at the Faculty have the common objective of training health professionals in the broadest sense. Studies in medical sciences, dental sciences, pharmacy, biomedical sciences, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, motor sciences and public health sciences all have human beings and health as their subject.

A detailed analysis of the evolution of society, knowledge and techniques has led the Faculty of Medicine to integrate and develop an innovative teaching approach organized according to a modular structure and a multidisciplinary mode whose center is the student. This approach, called problem-based learning, partially replaces ex cathedra courses and clinics. Learning is organized in small groups under the supervision of tutors trained in this method whose objective is to allow students to become the actors of their learning. Learning replaces teaching.

Thanks, on the one hand, to these modern teaching methods and, on the other hand, to the clinical activities developed within the University Hospital Center, to the numerous experimental and/or clinical research programs, as well as to the cutting-edge techniques developed in the laboratories, the ULiège Faculty of Medicine trains competent, autonomous, efficient professionals who are open to the world and its changes.

Professor Edouard LOUIS,
Dean
