"assessing the sporting shoulder : a critical analysis of the current tools"
Screening has become more and more popular over the last years. Different assessment tools and tests have been created, developed and improved over the last years to assess strength, power, mobility, functionality, proprioception of the shoulder. However, for the practitioner, it remains sometimes very complicated to choose the right tool or the right test. Each tool or test has advantages or disadvantages, positive aspects or limits that must be considered before using it. Moreover, the interpretation of the different test is sometimes complicated and not always consensual between experts. The main objective of this thesis was to make a critical analysis of the assessments tools available to assess shoulder function in upper limb athletes. The paper was divided into three parts. The second part was dedicated to evaluation importance. The second part showed some practical implications of the measurement tools and tests in practice. The last part was dedicated to discuss the positive aspects as well as the limitations of the existing functional tests. The reliability and validity of new functional tests were also explored. This thesis gives practical information for clinicians to improve the management and the monitoring of upper limb athletes.
